The Apiary Workflow leverages the efficiency afforded by combining human collaboration and the use of machine processes. The workflow divides up tasks to various participants based on levels of expertise and skill, maximizing efficiency by dividing and dispersing workload. Tasks are distributed to the personnel best able to perform them, be they a new volunteer, an experienced botany enthusiast, or a botanist specializing a particular species.

The tools and systems developed in the Apiary Project all lead to utilizing human expertise at maximized efficiency. All decisions in developing the workflow have looked to facilitating cooperation with other systems and techniques. Interoperable solutions will enable reuse and integration of data from various institutions.
