• Breadmakers Buying Guide

Cuisinart Convection Breadmaker has a good-looking design especially with its smooth brushed stainless steel body and beautifully embossed logo. The build-in convection fan ensure uniform hot air circulation while baking resulting in perfect crusts and texture every time. Features of the Cuisinart Convection Breadmaker:

With the 16 preprogrammed menu options plus the selectable 3 crust colors, and 3 loaf sizes, one can easily make over 100 different combinations of specialty bread, dough/pizza dough, artisan, sweet cake and even fruit jams. The optional 60-Minute Keep Warm cycle is a great feature to help structure of the loaf to develop properly before cutting or serving.

For those health conscious and perfectionist baker out there, there are several preset options to be selected, Low Carb, Gluten-Free and Artisan Dough. For Artisan Dough, the machine is smart enough to take the basic dough through several long, slow cool rises for chewier textures and rustic crusts.

The built-in audible tone timer is another nice feature to have, it serves as a reminder timer while baking. During the course, the machine will pause and sound the tone several times based on the selected preset baking cycle, for example first tone remind us that it is time to add fruit or nuts, second tone for removing the paddle before baking, or removing unbaked dough for baking in a traditional oven etc.

The included manual has some good recipes with simple operating instructions. There are recipes for Low-Carb and Gluten-Free menu options, as well as a variety of other breads, doughs and jams. Each recipe also comes with nutritional information per serving such as amount of calories, carb, fat and fiber.

Other nice features of the Cuisinart Convection Breadmaker:

    • Limited 3-year warranty

The only inadequacy that I found in Cuisinart Convection Breadmaker is that you can’t change some of the options in the middle of a baking cycle. This is crucial when you want to try out some “out-of-the-ordinary” specialty bread or artisan dough. However this is easily overcome by planning out those cycles before starting the baking process. My advice is to first read through the instruction manual to get to know how those baking cycles work.

    Conclusion

The Cuisinart Convection Breadmaker makes it so easy to bake hundreds of variety of bread from raw ingredients to finished loaf. The limited 3-year warranty further adds to the peace of mind knowing that one is protected from any manufacturing defect. The Cuisinart Convection Breadmaker is an ideal choice for bread lovers.

    Breadmakers Buying Guide

Do you prefer a horizontal or vertical loaf? We have seen some of the features that are common for the best bread makers; now let’s delve into the things one need to know before buying a bread maker. Plus, with the right bread machine, you can save lots of money over the long run. The ingredients needed for a loaf of bread vary between bread makers, but usually consist of flour, salt, sugar, oil or butter, water, bread-machine yeast and sometimes skimmed milk powder. So, if you’re serious about baking bread, then a decent, reliable bread maker is a good investment, as the best models will reliably turn out a daily loaf for years to come. Most machines work in roughly the same way. A bread maker that rattles and churns, jolting you out of bed at 4 a.m. when your delay-start program kicks in, is not something you will use very often.

Smaller loaves are easier to slice, while larger taller loaves can be trickier to slice as the top of the loaf has a softer crust. Vertical Bread Makers bake bread which is tall with brick like shape, unlike the conventional bread shape. But how do you know which bread machine is the best for you? All these ingredients can be found in most supermarkets. Keep an eye out for promotions and online deals for bread makers, because it’s possible to find the best bread makers on sale. You simply put the ingredients into the breadmaker, close the lid and switch on – the machine will automatically mix, prove and bake the bread. Some of the cheaper bread machines in this report get panned for noise, so if that’s a concern, you’ll want to buy the sturdiest — and hence quietest — model you can afford.

The number of slices will vary, but generally you can expect eight slices from a 500g loaf, 12 slices from 750g and 16 slices from a 1kg loaf. Vertical bread makers are affordable, occupy less space and give a loaf of bread with a fluffy top. How do you know what features you will need? A minority of bread makers require Vitamin C tablets, which you’ll probably need to order online. If you’re new to bread making and want to try it out before shelling out a lot of dough for a top-of-the-range bread maker, it’s possible to buy a decent bread maker for around £40. It takes three to four hours to produce a light, white loaf with a good flavour, and around three to five hours for wholemeal bread. Displays should be easy to read, and it shouldn’t require much time or effort to locate or use a desired setting. This feature lets you select your desired crust colour.

They bake good loaves of bread if you use good ingredients, instead of using all-purpose flour use bread flour, and recent, active yeast. Read the following bread machine buying guide to find out what to look for in a bread machine and how to find one that will suit your budget and needs. Bear in mind that you’ll need to buy special “strong” flour to make bread. But it’ll be a lot more basic and the results won’t be as good as a Best Buy bread maker – to get the best model for your budget, use our bread maker reviews to see which cheap bread makers impressed, and the ones to avoid. And you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing exactly what ingredients go into your loaf. Two cycles a basic cycle and a dough cycle are really all you need to make almost any type of bread, all other cycles and options are gravy, and you should pay for them only if you’re sure you’ll use them. Most breadmakers have a choice of light, medium or dark.

Welcome to our website, a site dedicated to all slow cookers who love slow cooking with a programmable slow cooker. The slow cookers are great when it comes to making certain dishes. They are also considered better than the regular cookers because they allow the family to spend more time together and the family eats a healthier and tastier food than what they were eating before. With so many slow cookers available in the stores, Choosing the best quality slow cookers in UK is really a time consuming task.

The slow cookers come in various ranges. The size and the technology differ with the models. You can buy manual slow cooker which are available but it is better to buy a new model which are programmable. What you get with these cookers is really amazing. You can program the entire recipe. Seems complicated? It is not. You can set the timer and the pressure and the cooker will do the rest for you. You will not have to worry about monitoring the slow cooker but the programmable slow cookers will serve you well without you worrying them.

Always make sure that you are doing the settings which are not reducing your time to reach the 140 degrees. This value is of huge importance as it keeps checks on the bacteria growth and kills them. After reaching this temperature, you can easily program the cooker according to your need and time.

Most of the programmable slow cookers have an LCD display to make it easier for you to know what you have programmed. This LCD will also help you to understand the settings while you are doing them. The programmable slow cookers are also equipped with a technology which enables them to protect the food when the power goes off. This feature is really handy especially if you are cooking outside on a picnic etc.

The programmable slow cookers are also good at handling the food after being cooked. You will set the timing according to the dish and once the dish is ready, the cooker will enter a mode commonly called ‘keep it warm’. In this mode the programmable slow cookers will not let your food lose its warmness and will keep the taste of a freshly cooked food.

The programmable slow cookers also have another amazing feature which makes them better than all other cookers out there. They are not only programmable but they are also manual in many ways. You get a spoon through the lid to shake the meal and you can always use the manual mode. If you are in a mode of spending some time over watching the food and doing it your own way, you can always go back to the manual method. There is no restriction over it.

The programmable slow cookers are better because they will cook your food slowly. This is actually better for the food as it remains tastier and it is not too hot too eat. Another amazing thing about the slow cookers is the freshness which you will feel about the meal. The meal will never have to be kept open to cool down but you can start eating right after it is cooked. This will always give you a good feeling.

Important Tips Before Purchasing Slow Cookers

A 3.5-4L model is ideal for couples and single people while 4.5-6L models will serve the average family of 4-5 persons well. The term slow cooker encompasses all brands and models of electric cookers that offer slow cooking functions. To find out which models performed best and which features really mattered, we chose seven slow cookers, all digital, 6 to 6 1/2 quarts. These are big pieces of equipment that you’re probably not going to be using on every day, and you may not have the budget or space to buy more than one. Prices for the slow cookers we bought in past tests ranged from $40 to $250, but the cost of the cooker didn’t predict performance.

If you’re cooking for two, you’ll only need a 3–4.5L slow cooker, but if you’re cooking for a group, look at a 5-8L model. Pricier models usually have fancier digital controls, more timer options and some even have an auto-stir function. A slow cookers should only be filled from half to two-thirds of its capacity when cooking. There are generally four types of slow cookers, some of which are enhanced with special features. We used these models to prepare finicky pasta, meaty chili, and delicate boneless, skinless chicken breasts. When choosing a slow cooker or pressure cooker, remember they can be extremely heavy – and that’s before you put in any of the ingredients or liquid.

Specific features helped make one slow cooker better, or more convenient, than another. You can always make extra and freeze the leftovers, but don’t leave them in the slow cooker to cool down for too long. But you don’t necessarily need any of these features to make a tasty stew. Consider storage space as well. Your first consideration is choosing a slow cooker capacity that meets your needs and that will include deciding on a round or oval shape cooker. In addition to testing large slow cookers, we also tested smaller 4-quart slow cookers; they are handy for recipes scaled for two, though we found in our recipe testing that this size of slow cooker is quite versatile and can actually be used for many of the other recipes throughout this book.

Empty weights range from 2kg up to 6kg. The newer models feature electronic controls that let you pre-program cooking time, usually in 30-minute intervals, and that automatically switch to warm when cooking is complete. There are models on the market that are able to sear meat and vegies, either in the slow cooker itself, or by transferring a removable inner pot to the cooktop. We make sure each cooker – whatever extras it has – can make a really good stew or casserole, as there’s no point having a high-tech slow cooker if it can’t do the basics well. Rectangular or oval slow cookers tend to be more space-efficient compared to round slow cookers.

Many homes have more than one slow cooker, because this appliance is very convenient convenient for a number of tasks from keeping vegetables warm and gravy hot on a buffet, making a large batch of pasta sauce or soup for two.A slow cooker is a simple appliance. Think about the kind of life you lead and what would most suit your lifestyle. Because there is so little difference in overall cooking performance we no longer test slow cookers or provide slow cooker Ratings. This removes the need for multiple pans when cooking meals that require searing. It might promise six litres on the box, but you won’t get six litres worth of stew out of it. It’s important to remember that prolonged heat-up and cool-down times in a slow cooker can encourage bacteria, so check on which slow cookers are able to heat water and food the fastest even while on low heat settings.

If they squeak a lot or make noise, then chances are they aren’t being taken care of.

    Foam roller benefits

Regularly using a Foam Roller – especially a deep tissue massage roller – offers many of the same benefits as a sports massage, including reduced inflammation, scar tissue and joint stress, as well as improved circulation and improved flexibility. Some of the basic, most obvious benefits will be increased blood flow throughout the body, better movement and increased range of motion. The concept of tissue mobility is of even greater importance after injury because new layers of fascia are laid down as scar tissue. A foam roller is a simple piece of equipment that anyone can use for self-myofascial release. Regularly rolling pre and post workout will mean you will help prepare your muscles for the workout ahead and also help with post muscle recovery.

    • These benefits can decrease the chance of injury and decrease recovery time after a workout.
    • If this tissue isn’t broken up, mobilized, and properly aligned, it can cause problems in the future.
    • Self-myofascial release, or self-massage, is a great habit for athletes and weight lifters alike.
    • Once you start rolling I guarantee you will wonder how you ever performed your workouts without it and really understand foam rolling benefits.
    • A decreased recovery time means more training sessions per week/month and results can come quicker.
    • Even if you had an injury a while ago (months to years) it can still creep up on you and cause problems.

This is because the health benefits increase fitness at a very affordable price. Though not a substitute for stretching, warming up or cooling down, foam rolling limits soreness by increasing flexibility and increasing the blood flow. Increased circulation is huge for recovery and greater ROM means you get to work muscles more thoroughly on lifting days. Many times, when I’m evaluating an injury, the more I get into the history of pain with the person, the more past injuries are revealed.

Do You Read Need Foam Rollers

For instance, a one-hour massage costs in excess of $50, while foam rollers are readily available for $30 and less. During prolonged and strenuous exercise, the body builds up what’s called lactic acid. The principle holds that by applying direct and sweeping high mechanical loads to muscles and tissues, you stretch and massage the underlying tissues. Because blood carries oxygen throughout the body, good circulation becomes crucial to overall health. Using foam rollers can reduce the risk of developing adhesions.

Lactic acid buildup is often associated with cramps and the beginning stages of fatigue, especially after strenuous exercise. This is believed to reduce thickening, adhesion, and tension of the fascia [connective tissue] and muscle, and can potentially reduce fatigue, improve recovery, and enhance range of motion. Among other reasons, a decrease in our circulation can lead to a whole host of problems like numbness in our limbs, impaired cognitive ability (the ability to think clearly!) and a weak immune system. Tissue adhesions are created as the result of collagen binding between layers of muscle. A common example of a trigger point is felt while foam rolling your iliotibial (IT) band as it causes pain to radiate up to the hip or all the way down the leg to the ankle. (more…)

  • Paleo Diet – The way to eat smart and remain healthy

Lots of people have questions about the Paleo Diet. It’s pretty hot right now. In this lens, I will share my experience with it and let you make your own decisions. This is by no means a definitive source, but it will give you an idea of what the day to day experience is. My life has changed dramatically, and I think there are a lot of people out there that could benefit from eating and living this way. This is my lighthearted story of how Paleo has affected me.

    Not Sure What Paleo Is?

When I turned 17, I began feeling like crap. Quite literally, actually, but I’ll spare you the gory details. Long story short, I was originally diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Feel free to Google it, I’ll wait… Not so much fun. I went to several specialists, spent quite a bit of time in the hospital and it was finally determined that I am allergic to all of the traditional medications they treat this disease with. Tired of feeling worse from the treatment than I did from the disease, I quit going to doctors and kind of gave the entire situation a giant middle finger.

That attitude really doesn’t work when you have a chronic illness. Several years later I ended up back in the hospital quite ill, and got a new diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease. I found a new doctor and a new medication, Humira. I can gladly say that this doctor was different and so was this drug. I have been in remission for 5 years, which is pretty sweet. However, I became 90 lbs. overweight (the only foods I tolerated even with treatment are high fat and high sugar), had chronic headaches, sinusitis, and worsening allergies. That doesn’t fly very well for an active horse girl like me. I had never been allergic to horses quite as severely as I have been the last few years, and during hay season I live in a perpetual Benedryl Fog. So pretty much, I still felt like crap, but it was metaphorical now. I needed to find a way to change that, and it seemed like diet was a good place to start.

About 3 months ago, I was introduced to the Paleo Diet. I thought “Super, another well marketed eating plan that will have me chained to the bathroom.” However, desperate to feel more like a human being and less like a slug, I decided to give it a go. I called my doctor, told him my plan, and he gave it two thumbs up. I was a little surprised about that because it seemed a little extreme. I’m no stranger to the bathroom, and I had a lot of reading to catch up on so I decided to give it the good ol college try. I bought an economy pack of Quilted Northern Bath Tissue, and a whole bunch of organic food and exotic sounding things like Red Palm Oil.

The first week I was a complete beast to hang around with. No sugar of any kind. Anyone who doesn’t believe that sugar is a drug, try going off of it cold turkey and then we’ll talk. I was getting terrible headaches (worse than usual), and I felt like I was going to die. I have a feeling my friends and family kind of wanted me to at this point as well, I was moody and cranky too. I was breaking out all over the place, and my hair was an absolute oil slick. This was simply my body learning how to live without refined sugar and triple cheese burgers. I should also mention, that it did not trigger my digestive system or cause a Chron’s flare up; this was a huge surprise to me.

After my initial Hell Week, which I now understand just about every one goes through when they start Paleo, I felt really weird for me. Like, “Hey, do you want to go for a hike today?” or “You know what sounds fun? Swimming!” and “Do you think we should remodel the kitchen?” I had energy like I hadn’t experienced since high school. My skin started clearing up, and my hair turned into something better than my normal. In fact, I call this my new normal since it’s been this way for two months now. I haven’t adopted an exercise plan of any sort, but I now do things just because they sound fun. I have also lost 15 lbs in the last two months. I realize that most of that was water weight, but I did it without starving myself or counting calories. In fact, the only reason I know I lost that weight is because the nurse mentioned it at my last Dr. appointment. I had to go home and find a scale to look at and see if it was true.

So far, my experience with this diet has made me want to stay on it. After the initial weirdness of eating foods that I wasn’t necessarily familiar with or fond of, I can’t imagine going back to my old way of eating. There are thousands of good recipes to try, and tons of good information on how to start and stay on this diet. While I don’t try to convert people to it, since everyone has got to find their own way in this world, I don’t mind sharing my experience with others.
